Simplicity 8843 Unlined Casual Anorak Jacket

Where is my tripod and clicky thing?

I’m soo pleased with this jacket, I believe it’s the fabric, the fabric really elevates this jacket.  I’ve seen a lot of cotton jackets and truthfully they are cute but, I wanted drape.  For my body, I believe fabric with drape looks great on me so I went looking for a mid-weight fabric designed for jackets that wasn’t super stiff.  I didn’t get a swatch of this so I was pleasantly surprised that it had drape.  I had a jacket a while a go that had great drape and it had knit sleeves, I still do not know the fabric, but I think it was a mid-weight rayon or Tencel.  Any who, I didn’t know this fabric would be so good, so win!

I used a Robert Kaufman T-400 Tech Twill fabric in a charcoal fabric for this jacket and although it’s polyester, I really like it.  I don’t usually sew with poly (unless it’s a blend or ITY knit).  I cut an XL at the neckline, shoulders and bust and graded out the XXL for my hip.  I added 5/8″ length above the waist and one inch at the hem.  I also added an inch to the sleeve which I didn’t need.  I did a slight forward shoulder adjustment and that was it.  The 30 ” zipper worked for me because I added length but not sure if 30″ is needed for the smaller sizes.  I tried to find a longer zipper because I wanted the jacket longer but If I make again, I will either make it high low or try to get a custom zipper.  I haven’t seen the separating zipper by the yard so it was hard to find a 32″ separating zipper in the colors I wanted.  Ohh, the fabric does not press good, it takes some steam and pressure, but the results are worth the effort.

Started adding size and fabric contents in the event it gets purged.

The insides.

That’s it, the only thing I would change is possibly adding a channel on the hood for a drawstring, possibly a drawstring at the hem, and adding ribbing to the inside of the sleeve as a cuff, that would be soo cool too.

That’s it, I believe my classic white shirt will be ready for the blog next week…
