Simplicity 1279 #2 In Chambray Twill
Ok friends, I’ve adjusted my new TNT button up shirt and I believe this is my favorite. I’ve been thinking if I should adjust the back pattern piece to a princess seam version as well, but I enjoy not having a fitted back so maybe I’ll adjust it later. My front chest measurement extends a little past my armhole so I may tweak that by shaving a little off from my armhole and then possible add a little to the sleeve. I’ll have to think about how I want to make that adjustment.
I used a chambray twill shirting I got from FabricMart. I like this fabric because it looks denimy (yes, that’s a word) without being too heavy. After making this, I realized I may want a nice denim shirt with all the top stitching but nothing is on the list yet.
The only changes to this version from this one is, I rotated the side dart to a shoulder princess seam. I really like shoulder yokes, they hang nicely on my forward shoulder, so I didn’t make these princess seams come directly from the shoulder seam. Here’s a good post on how I rotate darts.
That’s it, I should be able to finish my white classic button up soon, fabric has been ordered. I have a few more items I’ve made that I’ll blog about soon. Also, do you make halloween costumes, if so will you make one this year? Do share…
Until next time…

I like the back of your shirt; I don't think shirt backs should be too fitted, because it restricts movement. Looking forward to seeing your white version!
And I made costumes when the kids were younger. OK, maybe not young; Jeffrey came home from college one fine fall break with a big hunk of "bear fur" that he'd gotten somewhere, and he wanted me to make him a Viking cape. Easy peasy, although I didn't admit that to him. He sent me flowers and brought me chocolates for thanks.

Loving how you hacked the pattern to get the shirt you wanted!

This is really cute. The fabric is perfect for this top. I'm sure you will be able to wear it with a ton of things…denim is like black that way. Happy sewing!
