My Outfit of the day: Simplicity 8841 and Simplicity 8930

Carolyn takes the best pictures!

I love an easy outfit and these two patterns have endless possibilities.  As I look for basic things in RTW I can help but tell myself, I can make that!  I know, I know, sometimes I just want to buy what I want and others I make it.  I wanted wide legged pants but I wasn’t sure how they would look.  I didn’t want to look like I was wearing a sack, but I figured, If I make them, I can make them however I want, right?  I made these pants at Sew Camp and Carolyn took all the photos!

I’ve been seeing pants around like these but truthfully, I don’t like all the fabric at center back, it’s just too much.   I don’t like these pants so I figured I would make these myself.  Now, obviously I could have purchased these and adjusted center back, but it’s fun to make them LOL.  I think I did a much better job with fitting the back.
Nordstrom Rack
I made a few adjustments to my pants:
  • I cut size 22 and I made view A
  • Cotton blend fabric from the FabricMart brick and mortar
  • I added 3″ to the center back crotch length
  • Lowered front crotch length 3/4″
  • I added 4″ to the length
  • I graded up adding an inch to each side seam from low waist to hem
The legs are very wide and the original pants I made were cropped (need to get photos) so when I added the inch to each side seam it made them extra wide.  Cennetta helped me narrow my pattern so when I make them again, I’ll narrow the legs a bit; I’m excited by the possibilities, I’m thinking of hacking a recent released pattern, I mean, why not??
Love the way the back fits
For the top, I cut an XL at the shoulder and neckline and graded to the XXL at hip & I used a rayon knit fabric.  I did a round back adjustment and forward should adjustment.  I added three inches to the hem, and I made small straps instead of the suggest twill tape and ribbon.  I cut one inch strip and basically made knit spaghetti straps, I like that better for the side rouching.  I’m thinking I will add a neckline band the next time, this is a turn and topstitch neckline feature, but I’m not sure.
That’s it until next week, more to come…

Your pants are awesome! I wanted them – bad. While I do exactly the same thing – I'm wondering why you would want to make another pattern – I mean, these are fabulous! I'm gonna have to check out the pattern because I can't remember if these pulled on or not. Make all the pairs and rock them – these are amazing and your tushy looks great! g

Your pants look so much better than the Nordstrom ones you showed that they aren't even in the same universe. I enjoyed watching Cenetta help you iron out the fit issues, and I agree with Carolyn that you should make several pairs. That top is super cute, too!

I was seriously jealous of the fit on these pants! Seriously! You should make like five pairs of these. And I was happy to take these pics…did you show them to your daughter yet?

Thanks for all of your help, and I plan to make like 5 pair! I'm definitely gonna use this to hack the Closet Case pants since they don't come in my size. She's seen them she hasn't asked about the pictures yet lol.

Great basics; as always, a fan of your style! I am about to make my first pair of pants (ever! seriously–I have no idea why the reluctance) using the new Closet Case Pietra. I also picked up the new Sew House Seven pants pattern, but I like the pockets on the Pietra better so starting there. Somehow the idea of comfy linen pants in summer appeals, even in the cool northwest!

Yes, comfy linen is a must! The Pietra's fall outside my side range but I like the pocket detail, these are very similar so I may try a different pocket on these.
