Sewing round up March-19 Ediition
Well, I’ve been busy! I’ve sewn a few things over the last week or sew, but most of these item’s I’ve sewn before and one was a TNT so it really didn’t take long to make this weeks garments. I typically do not have time to sew this many things (did I neglect something else?), probably! The boss politely reminded me that we have to finish our taxes. I’m a reformed tax accountant that hates doing her own taxes! I know I have to pay, so it can wait till whenever (not really whenever, because I don’t do penalties) but you know what I mean!
Anyway, there are a few things going on on IG this month and I wanted to jump in, coming up to the summer, not sure how much sewing I’ll get done because I plan to be doing things! I made the Blackwood cardigan again, here’s a previous version. I tried the D cup block this time (it was a free download if you purchased the previous version) in a cotton/ rayon blend french terry. Oops, there’s no length wise stretch in this fabric so attaching the front band was a challenge (insert eye roll), also, I forgot to lengthen the band (really, Q) so I added a piece to the back and all’s good now lol! That’s the only changes I made from this version of the Blackwood. I feel the sleeves are still tight and think a little more ease would be nice. The cardigan is designed to not meet at center front so that’s, that.
As for my Cashmerette concord T shirt, here’s one I’ve made previously, actually this is a dress hack, but yeah. I whipped that up in an hour or so, the fabric is a rayon jersey and a bit flimsy. I needed navy blue but wish it had a little more weight to it, but I still love it. There were no changes to this version. I forget that I make stuff and forget to blog, because i’ve made at least three other versions that never made it to the blog LOL.
Finally, I made overalls, I’m not a fan of overalls, but I wanted to try them, plus I’ve never made them before. I think I’ll have to find a design that I like or make some changes. I’ve also made the pants to this pattern before, so it just needed minor tweaks, I made these before, McCalls 7547. For this version, I made some fit adjustments and I used a twill fabric with no stretch. I added an inch to the bib and I probably should have added the inch to the front and back rise. I asked a few friends about the fit and they gave some good advice, adding to the waist to make them looser, adding to the front crotch rise and narrowing the bib.
I think the front of the legs look good. |
When I made these, I fitted the waist the way I would fit pants, and I think it needs a little more ease to get the bib to skim the body. I also lengthened the shorts, also, the butt was baggy as I sat down so I took it in, but I may need more width at the back inseam only or use a fabric with lycra. I also omitted the back bib, I doubled the length of the straps pattern and tried a criss cross thing in back. I will need to angle them if I use them again. I did a knock knee adjustment but still not sure, I have very big thighs (insert eye roll). Lastly, I don’t care for how the bib isn’t lined but actually hemmed, I think a lining would give a nice feature. I may remove the bib and just wear the shorts lol. Not sure if I’ll try this again, but you never know.
I took in the side seams because it was baggy in the butt may need more width in the back inseam and I need to angle the straps. |
What else, well, I have some last minute spring sewing to do. I’m on a mad dash for a light weight sporty jacket, a dress and a skirt ad a pair of paints, ohh, and some tops. WHY DO I DO THIS!!! I have unrealistic expectations of sewing an entire wardrobe (of non TNT patterns) in two weeks. I need my head checked. Maybe I’ll do a plans post, hummm…
Stay tuned to see if i get this all done (not in two weeks) insert eye roll LOL!
