Athleisure for the holiday McCalls 7061

Jeans are RTW.

Athleisure seems to be a trend of wearing cloths typically designed as athletic wear for everyday wear.  I see no issue with this lol, I mean, secret pajamas, leisurewear, athleisure, comfy, whatever you call it, it’s wearing clothes that are comfortable and stylish right?

I’m not above comfort, because truthfully, that’s when I’m happiest!  I’m happy when I look and feel good, and when my clothes AND shoes are comfortable.  Comfortable shoes are another topic of discussion (insert eye roll).  Can clothes be a little too leisurely?  perhaps, but if you enjoy wearing work out clothes and the environment is appropriate (this is a thing by the way, insert triple eye roll) then go for it.

I made this sweatshirt for my mom I think almost two years ago, I made the dress, view B for her.  For this top,  I made view C for myself.   I cut a size XL at the neckline and shoulder and graded up to the XXL through the bust, hip and hem.  I also did a full bicep adjustment on the sleeve.  The bodice was lengthened three inches and the sleeve was lengthened an inch.  I also did a forward shoulder adjustment.  This is a cute easy project that I can see modifying for a basic sweats shirt too and can easily be a TNT.  There wasn’t much to it, five pattern pieces and some purchased trim for the draw string.  I used a cotton lycra jersey with a little weight to it, it felt like interlock or a light weight ponte.  I used a jersey needle and my standard presser foot, I didn’t get a wavy hem when I tried out my stitch so I used tons of steam to get the seams to lay flat and didn’t use my walking foot.  I also don’t seem to use my serger as much these days but this could have been constructed on the serger/overlocker and the hem could have been coverstitched.

Here’s an inspiration picture from Anthropologie, the biggest difference is size, Anthropologie isn’t size include (insert triple eye roll), the cost and the design.  This didn’t come in my size, it wasn’t available and I really don’t like drop sleeves. I feel dropped sleeves don’t flatter my slope shoulders and they don’t work towards giving me a balanced silhouette without shoulder pads which I wasn’t putting in a sweatshirt.  I like the navy blue fabric I used, the kangaroo pocket and the length on my version.  I made a tunic length and I could have made it cropped and that would be cute too!  This cost me about $25 to make after coupons and pattern sales ($20 for fabric, $3 for notions and thread, $2 for the pattern), this saved me between $35-$95 before taxes and shipping.

Well, since I don’t edit photos really, you get to see the outline of my photographer lol.

I’m heading to my mom’s house for Thanksgiving and over the years, the authorized dress code has relaxed significantly.  However, if you want to wear your Sunday best, that’s cool, if you want to wear athleisure, that’s cool, we are basically, come as you are type people.  Games are played, food is eaten, t.v. is watched, etc… so why not be comfy.  I love the people who are extra because It gives me good ideas on outfits lol.  I’m looking forward to the minks, glitter and ridiculous heels, I like observing peoples personal style, I think it’s what makes them who they are.

Me, my attire will be  jeans, my sweatshirt and boots, this is partly because of the weather and partly how I’m feeling right now. I have so many options and I enjoy choosing something me made, I’m constantly looking through my closet to fill gaps.  I didn’t have any casual sweaters/sweatshirts that were me made, I have a few hoodies that are RTW that I wear all the time, but I wanted something a little different.

I don’t wear jeans much during the week for work so I like the opportunity to dress them up and down for the weekend but I’m a dress girl and that’s usually my default outfit.  I have a few cardigans that I thought of wearing, but because of the weather, I didn’t want to layer a coat over a long cardigan so this works.

I need to take photos of a few finished items, like the Madison cardigan.  I’m finally working on pants and  I really need to get a clicker thingy to take my own photos (insert eye roll), any advice on a good tripod and clicker thingy?
