See and Sew B6473
This is my new blogger pose, lol! |
I really like this top! At first, I wanted to make a dress and I’m thinking I may soon! I always look through the see and sew patterns and New Look at Joann’s and Walmart because I’m cheap and I have a pattern problem. Actually, they have a lot of out of print designs, so they are less expensive than ordering from the website. See and Sew have a wide range of sizes and I truthfully think they are Butterick patterns reborn. They are not exactly like their regular Butterick patterns (they change the model and sometimes they adjust the number of views and of course for the envelope, they change the fabric) but if you look at the line drawings they are exact. I’m not sure if this is true or not, but feel free to give me your thoughts in the comments.
floppy neckline. |
I purchased this fabric from Fabricmart last year, I didn’t know what I wanted to make with it when I purchased it, but it was a precut so yeah, you know how I feel about precuts! I really like the colors of this fabric and this challis is not as translucent as most it’s a crepe challis with a nice weight and sort of crinkle finish.
I recently styled it with a belt and navy RTW pants for work and I shared this look on Instagram. I think I took the belt off after a while, I don’t like wearing a belt on my pants and then one on my waist, that’s just weird and it feels awkward. My pants need to be taken in so maybe that will help or maybe I’ll make a pencil skirt to go with it. OK, I am a horrible alterationist (is this a word?), I have a ton of clothes waiting to be altered and I don’t know why I choose to make something instead of fixing my current garments (insert eye roll). I know I’m not the only person like this, I really need to do better!
Back bodice is too long and back neckline can be raised or narrow the front neckline. |
On to the review:
Pattern Description: B6473 See and Sew
SEWING LEVEL: beginner ( set in sleeve, elastic waist, no closures)
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, although I made the bottom of the top high low.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, it was a basic blouse, tunic and the instructions are clear.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I like that this is a pullover top with no closures, I also like that the dart-less bodice isn’t horrible. The bodice doesn’t have darts, but I didn’t have any weird armhole
issues. I used my bodice block to make sure my armhole was ok, a dart
wouldn’t hurt on this top, but for me it wasn’t needed. I dislike how floppy the neckline is, I will adjust the slit or narrow the neckline if I make again.
Fabric Used:
Rayon challis
Back pattern adjustment to make high low |
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I made the back skirt portion high low, grading to the nothing at the side seam (see pic above), I just curved the hem. I added elastic to the sleeve hem, I did a forward shoulder adjustment and added just in case seam allowance to the side seams bringing up to a size 24 (46″ bust) I think a straight 22 maybe sufficient because of the amount of ease. I did a full bicep adjustment and lowered the sleeve cap, it had too much ease.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, and yes, I will adjust the neckline (front and back) and maybe take out a bit of ease and shorten the back bodice if I make it again.

Beautiful top! I sewed a See and Sew pattern years ago, but it was a shopping tote, not a fashionable top like the one you created! I will keep this in mind. I am also a bargain shopper, and I love the 97 cents patterns by Simplicity. I have only found those at Walmart, but not sewn them yet.

I grabbed a few totes too, we should totally commit to making one a month if we have the pattern in our stash🤔😂!

Yes, the See & Sew patterns are repackaged Buttericks, sometimes McCall's and to a much lesser extent, Vogue patterns. Totally worth it when it's an OOP pattern or when they only have the views you're interested in.
I LOVE FABRIC MART PRECUTS!!!!!!! I have loved pretty much every single cut of fabric I've ever gotten and didn't feel bad at all the last time I splurged during a 60% off precuts sale.
I LOVE THIS TOP! :-p The print is fabulous! It fits so well and it just *works*!

This was Vogue 9129 by the way!
And BOOOOO to alterations. I hate doing them. Hate, hate hate! LOL!!!

Wow thanks for the original pattern number 🤗! I’m happy with how it fits through the bust and will consider another version with the right fabric!

This top is so cute and so is your blogger pose LOL
And yes, I'm the same with alterations. I have a whole box sitting next to my machine and continue to cut new things *rolls eyes*

Hey Laquana! You look so happy when you model your gorgeous makes. Love that top, and I do think I remember a Butterick pattern just like it in my stash. You need to tell me more about the Fabric Mart "pre-cut" deals.
MadebyLaQuana
Sign up for their emails, they are pre cuts of nicebfabrics at great prices!
