Stash busting and sewing plans

Hi ya’ll, have you missed me?  I’ve been busy sewing, but I usually only post my finished garments to the blog.  I think I’m going to change that, I’m not sure if people want to see the process or not, but I want to share it so…

I have a few things I’m doing over the next few months, I have the monthly challenges over at Sew Much talent FB group, The Curvy Sewing Collective is doing bi- monthly challenges, Gillian with crafting a rainbow is hosting a Cashmerette sewing challenge, sew your view on IG, Burda challenge, and the day and night challenge with Elizabeth Made this are on my radar and sewing to do list.  These are just a few things sewist can get involved with monthly and they keep me busy.  I don’t have to participate in all of them, but I truly enjoy them so I try to plan what I already want to make and fit it into one of these challenges.

My plans for 2018 are to simply sew:
– Sew one garment a week
– Sew one new pattern per month
– Sew one “average” or “advance” pattern
– Sew pants without elastic
– Reduce the amount of sewing patterns I buy ( I don’t know why I’m frontin, this aint happening)
– Sew a coat
– Sew for charity
– Sew for a craft fair

I have a few Burda magazines that I’ve never sewn from and a new to me magazine called My Image that I’ve never sewn from.  I want to enjoy my patterns by sewing them, I also want to buy more fabric that I can use for pants, and dresses.  I’m thinking ponte knit, scuba knit, suiting, twill and stretch sateen.

For the skirt I made a straight size 24, I took in the waist about an inch after trying it on and now it’s a bit snug!  I really like the full skirt silhouette and the ease of this pattern, it only has three pattern pieces so that’s good.  I also didn’t have to lengthen this which is not normal for me, I used a cotton fabric with a denim patchwork look to it.   I don’t have any dislikes, this is Burda so no hand holding on the instructions,  they are pretty straight forward and I think an advanced beginner could tackle this.  I will make this again and I recommend it.

I love this sweater, I didn’t have enough fabric, so I shortened the sleeve of view C.  I made this out of a ponte knit.  This is my wearable muslin, I cut a size 22 at the shoulder and graded to a size 24 at the bust and hem.  The directions were good and I think they are straight forward.  The next version, I’ll have a full long sleeve and I will raise the neckline two inches under the arm without the sleeve and one inch at the shoulder blending the front and back neckline to give more coverage.  I may also use clear elastic at the neckline to make it lay flat or take a tuck to the center front and back to tighten the neckline.  I would recommend this pattern.

What’s up next?  I’ll be trying out dress patterns for the day and night challenge so I’ll post some ideas and fabric next week so I can make a few and hopefully finalize my plans.

What do you have going on in your sewing room?  Do you have any suggestions on fabric, what’s your favorite fabric for pants and dresses?
