DIY Toaster Sweater Simplicity 8529

I really like this sweater, it’s modern and very trendy.  It’s also plus
when you get an awesome Indie Pattern from a Big 4 pattern company at the sale
price.  This pattern is a little different from Sew House Seven toaster sweater #2,
Simplicity’s pattern has a dropped shoulder.  I wasn’t sure if I liked the
dropped shoulder but I think for the oversized fit of this top, it works, I
think raglan sleeves work better for me.  The Simplicity pattern
didn’t offer the raglan sleeve option, but I’m OK with the overall style.
In any event, you get the same over all effect and everyone is sewing this up
this winter.  Meg over at Cookin’ and Craftin’ has dedicated a
week to her toaster sweaters, how cool is that?   I really wanted to make
this in a nice bulky sweater knit but I didn’t have any my stash so I made
my first sweater in a lightweight Tri Blend French Terry I picked up
from Fabric.com (it’s out of stock now, but
they have some other options).

Pattern Description:
These Misses’ toaster sweaters by Sew House Seven have a drop shoulder and
are slightly oversized. Create a variation that is perfect for you! Pattern
features four styles, cropped or long, with either a high neckline or crew
neck, and with or without side slits.

SEWING LEVEL: Confident beginner (working with knits, hemming knits, hemming side slits and working with sleeve bands in the round)
SIZING:XS-XL all sizes in the envelope.  I made an XL
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were
done sewing with it?

Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, the instructions are good.  There were only four pattern pieces so
it wasn’t a difficult sew, however, making the slits and the self lined
neckline requires you to go slow so everything gets lined up.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I like that an Indie pattern is offered with big four sale pricing!  I
like the oversized trendy look and the different heck and hem options.  No
dislikes, I know it’s  lot to ask, but a  raglan sleeve option would
have been perfect, but that’s not really a dislike more so than wishful
thinking.
Fabric Used:
Lightweight French Terry Knit.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I added three inches to the length.  I added two inches at the lengthen
cut line and an inch to the hem.  I wanted to ensure the side slit was
proportional.  Some reviews stated that the other views were a little short,
so measure yourself to make sure you get the length you want and the slits are
at a comfortable spot for you.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, I plan to sew the other view and make some modifications.  I think
this is a good solid pattern with lots of potential a good pattern that will
work for everyone.

Have you sewn the Toaster sweater?  What is your favorite sweater
pattern?
