Pattern Review: B5529 + The Dolman sleeve jacket

I’m getting a head start on my Fall sewing.  I’ve seen this type of Dolman sleeve open jacket all over the place.  This is an older Butterick pattern that’s still in print, yay!!.  I’ve seen this pattern in a ton of places in the spring and early fall catalogs, what does that tell you?  patterns come back around too!  I hate having multiple patterns that are similar unless I learn a new construction technique or it has a cool design feature.   So, when I went looking through my patterns for a open easy jacket, I realized I actually  purchased a similar pattern from Simplicity recently in addition to this one!   In my defense, I purchased the other pattern for the slip dress!  I tell you what, I’m ashamed to say how many patterns I have that look similar but are from different pattern companies, even worst, the same pattern with different pattern numbers from the same pattern company… Ohh well, on the review:

Pattern Description:
Loose fitting jackets with no closures, I constructed View B, above waist, dolman sleeves, pleated drape, sleeve bands

Pattern Sizing:
XS-XXL  I cut a size XL

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
 Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, straight forward project.  Next time, I will not do french seams unless I’m using a sheer fabric, I also wont be doing all of the and stitching.  I may use an alternative method of adding the band to avoid the hand stitching.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
All the different views, the open jacket is very trendy as well as the Dolman/Kimono sleeve. Dislike, uhhh, hand stitch… no ma’am, the next time I will not be doing all of this hand stitching!

Fabric Used:
Green digital print Stretch poly from Fabric Mart.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:

I’m on a high low kick, I added three inches to the back at center back and curved to nothing at the side seam.  I sewed 1/4″ seams to make sure it was loose enough since I cut a size smaller than my normal.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, I plan to make one in a stretch velvet, crepe or a printed mid weight knit.

Conclusion:
I really like this and recommend it, It’s an easy sew and it’s a trendy pattern good for beginners.

I want to hear from you, do you have multiples of your patterns?  are you getting into Fall sewing?
