Pattern Review: New Look 6519 + Tie front
I haven’t blogged much in August because I’ve remade some pattern’s that I’ve reviewed before. I’m super lazy and well, I didn’t want to waist a blog post on remakes, but I think I will try and highlight them in a post sometime during the month. I think Instagram and Facebook are culprits in my non existent blog posts, they make it easy to snap a picture and post, blogging takes more time, and did I say I’m lazy?

I’m getting inspiration from all over the place, and also contemplating what to make for fall. I know I want a blazer and a cardigan. I have the patterns, but not sure If I have fabric to make what I want. I’m trying to use the fabric I have before buy more, I’m picky now a days with fabric. I’m trying to to buy stuff just because it’s on sale, I’m looking for solids and nice bold prints for my future makes. Also, I want more comfy layering tops for fall that I’ve seen trending lately. I love the comfy look and really, I don’t care if it’s trending or not, fitted items are not comfortable for everyday wear for me and the loose fitting, shaped tops and dressed are my go to lately.
This top is great because it’s an easy sew, loosing fitting, so not a lot of fit issues and fussyness and it has ties at the waist which for my rectangular shape gives me the ability to nip in the waist while still keeping the over all comfy feel of the kimono/ drop shoulder top.

Pattern Description:
Misses’ mix-and-match separates including generous tie-front dress and top paired with pants and shorts.
SEWING LEVEL: Beginner
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes!
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, no errors or confusing instructions, very straight forward.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Love the boxy look with the tie front, very comfy and stylish. The drop shoulder is a plus also. I also like the shorts pattern, although I haven’t made them yet.
Fabric Used:
Lightweight chambray and a Liverpool knit ( I used this knit fabric here)
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
-I did my normal forward shoulder adjustment.
-I graded up to a size 22 by adding 5/8″ to each of the side seams
-For the Chambray version, I made the sleeved view, I added 3 inches to the center back hem and curved to nothing at the side seams to make it high low. Some reviews said it was short so I left the front length as is and made sure the sides matched.
-For the knit version, I made the sleeveless view, I added 8′ to the back pattern piece and three inches to the front piece to make it high low with side slits . Also, for the knit version, I made the waist ties narrower (I ran out of fabric). I also added a center back seam and added 5/8 seam allowance because I didn’t have enough fabric to cut both front and back on the fold.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, I plan to make this in a dress using a Ponte knit. I will make it sleeveless so I can wear a turtle neck under it. I really like this top, it’s flattering and very trendy, great beginner project.
