Pattern Review: V9253+ The Dress
I wasn’t sure about this dress, all I could see is cleavage! and lots and lots of fabric. There was yet another IG challenge that I had to partake in, these ladies are awesome! If you don’t follow me on Instagram, you should, lots of shenanagins going on there. I get so much inspiration and encouragement, I get excited each month. I passed this pattern up multiple times, mostly because I couldn’t see beyond what I didn’t like. I’m learning to look at the “bones” of the pattern, I’ve talked about this before, but really, I probably would have passed this one up. In comes my Facebook groups again. Let me just say here, if you can get connected with like minded folk, via guilds, Facebook groups, etc, get connected, folks will push you and you will learn and grow.

Ignore the facing flipped out in the back, my 14 yr old photographer had strict instructions regarding tags and facings, but then again she doesn’t listen. I love her anyway!
OK, so, I saw a review by My Daily Threadz, and she made the dress, I loved the way she modified it using a knit and she wrapped the bodice. I like her version and I may try that also. I didn’t want my neckline so low and I knew it had to be redrafted, but I didn’t know how to fix it. I’m not a pattern drafter, I have hundreds of patterns, because I understand the mechanics of sewing but I lack the creativity. I didn’t want to make it as is because I wanted a wearable garment, and as drafted, it’s not something I would wear. I took to Sew to Fit’s Facebook group for some help and Andrea made a YouTube tutorial found here showing step by step how to make the modification to the neckline. What I learned from this process? get connected if you want to be better, I do that through Facebook. There are a few sewing groups I belong to that I love, Sew much talent Facebook group, Sewtofit’s Facebook group, the Curvy Sewing Collective Facebook group and Carol’s sewing corner Facebook group.
I’m trying to model like the lady on the pattern envelope, I love being silly, on to the review:

Pattern Description:
Semi-fitted back zipper opening, attached self-tie and length variations.

SEWING LEVEL: Beginner.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, they were easy and I found no errors.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I like the kimono sleeves and the simple design, I’m not ready for the extreme V-Neck but I do like it.
Fabric Used:
Rayon Challis
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I modified the V-neck using Sew to fit’s tutorial. I made view A and I cut size XL and graded 5/8″ up at the waist and hip . I tried to do a modified forward shoulder but it didn’t really work out. I also drafted a Neck facing from another V-neck pattern to get the basic shape. I omitted the zipper, it slipped over my head, I also lengthend the ties, making them sixty inches per tie.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, I think I will try the wrap version, maybe shorter, this dress takes up a lot of fabric! Also, I do like the way the bodice fits. The fabric has a vingtage feel to it, the dress is nice and flowy and feels yummy!
I want to hear from you, have you made this pattern? Do you plan on making it? Are you going to make it as drafted with the deep V???

I love it! The height of the neck is perfect on you and still has the general feel of the original pattern but without the, "Hey, that's my navel and all my chests!" It's so so pretty!

Thank you! I wore it today and it was very appropriate! I think of making another, but I don't know.

Glad to see this on a woman who needs a bra! It really looks great on you and I love how it looks with the raised v which I also would need! I wondered if this really needed the zipper.

Thank you, I didn't add a zipper.
