Pattern review: M6884+ THe mock wrap dress

I don’t know why I’m now making this dress but I really like it!  I saw Brittany J. Jones’ sew along on YouTube and I didn’t understand how she made six, but now I know.  I purchased some Polyester interlock knit from Walmart, with the intention of using it as a muslin.  The fabric is semi- opaque and polyester so not breathable but I like the print.  I’ve joined a few sewing groups and in one we are sewing florals so this was a good time to try this pattern out.  On to the review:

Pattern Description:

Close-fitting, pullover, mock-wrap dresses have right front variations, tie ends and narrow hems. A: Short sleeves. B: Long sleeves. C: Three-quarter length sleeves. C, D: Gathered right front. D: Sleeveless.

I sewed view B

Pattern Sizing:

14-22

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow?

Yes

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?

It’s a wrap dress albeit mock, but, It’s a wrap dress!  universally flattering on all body types.

Fabric Used:

Polyester interlock knit

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:

*I made view B with View A’s Sleeve
*I cut the shoulder and neckline in a size 22 grading to a 24 at the bust, waist and hip
*I did a forward shoulder addjustment
*I added 5 inches to the back piece pattern piece #3
*I did a .5 inch full bicep adjustment
*As customary in knits, I set the sleeve in flat
* The V was too deep and revealing so I added 1.25 inches to the neck line
*I serged all seams after baste fitting
* I added 5 inches to back piece and two inches to front piece and at the side seams of front  I connected the piece on a 60 degree angle so the back piece would be longer to account for my butt, this prevented the dress from riding up in the back, sort of a modified shallow high low hem.

Notes for next go round:

*Lengthen ties so I can wrap both ties around my waist twice, 8-10 inches
*Lower ties 1 inch
*Add pockets
*Make a tuck at the neckline for my hollow chest
*When adding to the neckline, curve the neckline in more of an arc than a straight line.

Would you sew it again?
Yes, I plan to in a nice cotton knit or maybe silk jersey.

Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, I recommend this, pattern has been made a lot, and the internet has tons of resources, blog post and Youtube tutorials out there.  Add this pattern to your collection and sew this one up!
