Pattern Review: M7195 + pullover top

I really like this top, but not so much the fit in the armscye.  This is a wearable muslin but I’m having a time reading the muslin’s for how to fix the fit.  I have cut this out again with some adjustments to the back and armscye, fingers crossed it works out.

Pattern Description:

Loose-fitting, pullover tops have neck and sleeve bands, French darts and hemline variations. A: Short sleeves. A, B: Narrow hem. B: Shaped hemline (wrong side shows). B, C, D: Long sleeves. C, D: Hem bands. Made view B

Pattern Sizing:

16-26, I cut a 22

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow?

Yes

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?

I like the loose fit, pull over style with the bands. I like the sleeve variations.

Fabric Used:

Rayon plaid from Joann’s. Ponte knit for bands.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:

This is my wearable muslin, sewn from the package a 22 at the shoulder and graded to size 24 at bust, waist and hem. I did a small round back adjustment as a test to get a better shoulder fit and that was a fail. This pattern had 6″ of bust ease so I didn’t do a a FBA. I didn’t lengthen my normal 2″ and like the other reviewers said the sleeves were ok, I didn’t do my normal sleeve adjustment of adding 2″ but I would check before cutting your fashion fabric. I did grade out at the biceps 1″!and used a 1/4 seam allowance on the sleeve. The sleeve needs more work to get a better fit. I will need a forward shoulder adjustment and lengthen the hem 2″. The back length is ok, I cut based on the back length but the front was too high, i felt like baby Huey and could not raise my arms or you would see my stomach, not a good look for work. The pattern envelope doesn’t give front length, if your taller than 5’6″ like my 5’9″ you should measure the front length and your front length over your bust before cutting your fabric. I didn’t like the way the neck band laid at the shoulder, it sort of buckled at the top like a cone, I would cut the band slightly larger as to not stretch as much, helping the band to lay flat like a t shirt.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?

Yes, I plan to with my above normal modifications.

Conclusion:

Great loose fitting top that is easy enough for beginners.
