Pattern Review: M7255 + Cotton and knit poncho

I have fiddled with this pattern at least four times.  I’ve made this for someone and my daughter loved this print so much, she stole it from me!  but It’s super cute, quick and easy.

Pattern Description:

Pullover ponchos have neckline variations and narrow hem. A, B, C:
Cowl-neck collar. B, D: Kangaroo pockets. E: Self-belt. D, E, F:
Single-layer hood, wrong side shows, and purchased drawstring. I made
view E

Pattern Sizing:

16-26, I cut the 22

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow?

Yes

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?

I love how easy it is and I love the neck variations

Fabric Used:

I used a flannel shirting from Fabricmart in them Cowboys colors!
lol… and a cotton ribbing for the cowl that I purchased from Walmart.
Because it’s so much ease in this poncho I used cotton, I made sure it
could go over my head easily and that the cotton had some drape.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:

I cut view E’s length and changed the neckline to view A so I could use
the cowl but still keep the belt holes from View E. I traced View E on
Swedish tracing paper and then overlapped view A’s neckline on top of
that to get the lines right. I could have just cut View C, lengthened
it and not rounded out the hem and then added the belt loops, but I
wasn’t thinking lol. I’m not accustomed to changing design elements on a
pattern. I didn’t like the rounded look on the hem for view A and C .
I only put the “button holes” for the belt on the front piece, I find
that there was less bunching of the fabric around my midsection if I
left the back free when belting. I also added the cowl from View A in a
knit ribbing. Since my daughter wanted this, I didn’t hem it as I had
to cut it down for her, and I didn’t take pictures of her wearing it. I
also didn’t make the belt, I used a contrasting orange from my closet.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?

Yes! I have made this a few times already, and actually this one was
cut down for my teenage daughter after this picture was taken. I want
to make a rain slicker out of it one day soon since the design and
instructions are so simple.

Conclusion:

Great pattern with lots of variations and potential. Great for beginners.
