Pattern Review: M7185 + the peekaboo 4th of July dress

Sooo, no sure if this pattern hasn’t been reviewed, because the patter gurus knew this would be a an X Rated pattern or what, but I like it!  I’ve been looking at this pattern for months, but some accountability, I posted it on social media, saying, “Hey, I’m Making this”!  and folks kept me accountable.  Overall, I like it and look forward to another view with the full skirt!  Here goes..

Pattern Description:

Wrap dresses have fitted bodice, French darts, waistband, skirt variations, stitched hem, snap and hook & eye closure. A:Sleeveless and bias facings. B: Rolled, three-quarter length sleeves with button tab. A, B: Mock-bands, semi-fitted skirt, pockets. C:Button waistband, narrow hem on gathered short sleeves. D:Three-quarter length sleeves, contrast bodice/sleeves and tie ends.  I made view A.

Pattern Sizing:

14-22

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow?

Yes

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?

I like the lines of the dress and I love the various cup sizing.

Fabric Used:

Stretch Cotton Sateen in Red White and Blue for the 4th!

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:

*  I added 2 inches to the skirt front and back pieces
* I forgot to add the inches to the skirt facing, oopps, but it worked

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?

Not view B unmodified.  I would have to figure out a way to stop the skirt from gaping, I wore it with some white biker shorts/ capris and that’s ok for a casual day but I don’t know about that for work.  a I think I need only one of  viewA,  but I would try viewB in a Ponte with a modified skirt for winter .  I probably would use single fold bias tape next time, and the french darts where fussy,  I will need a sway back adjustment next time.  I may cut in-between a 20 and 22 for the neckline and shoulders to see if I get a  closer fit, my hi bust is about 42 1/2 to 43 inches and I usually go up to the 22.

Conclusion:

This was a good pattern for me to try,  it took me out of my comfort zone and showed me how to pay attention to design elements.   I worked with French darts, faced waist band, and a X- Rated design element that I needed to work through.  Overall the project was a success!
