Pattern Review: Sorbetto by Colette + On the bandwagon+Revamp

This pattern is sort of a rite of passage for sewist.  I tried it to see for myself what the fuss is/was about and I must admit, it’s a keeper!  I don’t know if I would say it’s a “TNT” pattern, but it’s free and it’s a tank so what’s there not to like?

This is my second go round, my first go round with the Sorbetto was a disaster.  I read somewhere that the pattern was drafted for a  C cup so I didn’t do a bust adjustment (I didn’t know how at the time) and I just jumped right in and cut my fashion fabric, ughh!  Me and my rookie mistakes lol I did try to do a tissue fit, but I don’t know what I was thinking that first time lol.  I didn’t take pictures, but I did put this pattern up and thought that something was wrong with it lol.    I was wrong, there’s nothing wrong with the pattern, it was me!  Any who, on to the review.

Pattern Description:  

With its ultra simple construction (just two pattern pieces plus some bias tape, and no closures needed), elegant loose cut shaped with bust darts, and the box pleat detail down the front, Sorbetto is a pattern you can throw together in a huge range of fabrics for summer.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?


Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow?  


Yes and they are well written.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?  


I like the ease only two pattern pieces and I like the possibilities and variations available.  No dislikes, it’s free!

Polyester Charmeuse from Joann’s Fabric

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:


* Lengthened by 2″
* 1″ FBA
* Trimed arm hole and neck by 1/4 in and used single fold bias tape to finish the neck and arm hole.

Would you sew it again? 


Yes, it’s a free pattern and there are so many reviews and variations out there.  I may try my hand and a yoked front and back.

Would you recommend it to others?

Yes, again, it’s free, very basic pattern and it has endless possibilities.  I would say measure the flat pattern and get the length you want  first before making any other adjustments as it seems to be a bit too short for many.  You can also try different trims like lace or buttons on the front pleat, or you can invert the pleat or leave the pleat off completely.
