Pattern Review: Lindy Petal Skirt from Itch to Stitch **Free Pattern**

When I get frustrated with a pattern, I try and step away and work on something else to boost my confidence.  I’m working on a dress that has princess seams and I need to do a FBA.  I did a muslin, tissue fit and all, and it’s still wonky.

While in one of my Facebook sewing groups, someone posted a link to this free pattern.  I’d never worked with a PDF pattern, but it said easy and FREE so I saved it.  This is my “wearable” muslin and review.

Pattern Description: 

Lindy Petal Skirt is a simple knit pencil skirt with an elastic
waistband. It features two overlapping curved front panels that resemble
two petals. It is figure-hugging and showcases your curves. Lindy Petal
Skirt is a quick sew; even starting as a late night project, you will
finish in time to wear to the office the next day!

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow?

Very, I enjoyed how they are written.  Also, as other reviewers have said the instructions on how to attach the waistband are different, but good!

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?

It’s an awesome FREE pattern, what’s not to like!

I will say that I like that it’s a quick sew and it can be modified easily.  You can use the back piece for both the back and front for an easy knit skirt if you don’t like the petal look.  The pattern is versatile.

Would you sew it again? 

Yes, with modifications to the front, a petal skirt is pretty distinct.

Would you recommend it to others?

Yes, great beginner project and free!

Cost:

Pattern: Free
Fabric: It was $3 a yard at Walmart and I used almost 1.5 yards.   Total: $4.50 

Time: 

1hr to trace pattern after downloading and taping together then roughly another hour to sew as I basted first to fit before serging.  Total: 2 hrs

 Conclusion: 

Nice easy free pattern to get your feet wet working with knits.  Great starter project!
