  • DIY Toaster Sweater Simplicity 8529

I really like this sweater, it’s modern and very trendy.  It’s also plus when you get an awesome Indie Pattern from a Big 4 pattern company at the sale price.  This pattern is a little different from Sew House Seven toaster sweater #2, Simplicity’s pattern has a dropped shoulder.  I wasn’t sure if I liked the dropped shoulder but I think for the oversized fit of this top, it works, I think raglan sleeves work better for me.  The Simplicity pattern didn’t offer the raglan sleeve option, but I’m OK with the overall style.  In any event, you get the same over all effect and everyone is sewing this up…

  • Sew the Look: DIY Burberry Inspired Cape McCalls 7664

    December 16, 2017 / 11 Comments

I had a gap in my wardrobe, I needed a casual coat/cape that was good for cool weather and would work for times when I need to run from the car to the house/building.  I don’t have a lot of casual coats, but I have tons of jackets, so I knew I wanted something a little heavier than my jackets but not as heavy as my Wool coat.  I really like camo, so when I saw the fabric in the 50% of section of Joann’s I got a few yards with the intent of making a similar cape to this Burberry inspired cape.   I thought this was a good sew…

  • DIY Great Gatsby Dress and Cape

    December 12, 2017 / 10 Comments

What’s with the getup?  I went to a Great Gatsby themed birthday party and let me tell you it was fabulous.  The decorations, outfits, music and food were awesome.  The theme of the party was Great Gatsby, but we didn’t drink bathtub brew and we didn’t swing, but we did dance a lot!  This was a Juke Joint so it was dark, I tried my best with the pictures.  When deciding what to wear, I knew I wanted to make my outfit and I didn’t want a costume.  I knew it had to be quick, easy and something I could wear again. On my search for the inspiration, I did…

  • November Round Up Part 2: Butterick 6425 and McCalls 7698

    December 3, 2017 / 4 Comments

Here are the two patterns I made for myself this month, Butterick 6425 and McCall’s 7698.  I did a lot of planning for December and I had a lot of family events in November so I was busy, but not with sewing for me.   I have lots of personalized holiday gifts for December, a coat/cape, two party dresses, a sweater dress, and some tops/sweaters.  I hope to get them all done with minimal stress, I will write a blog post in the next two months outlining how I pan my makes. Soo, let’s start off with the robe: Pattern Description:  McCalls 7698 Close fitting through bust romper and jumpsuit have…

  • November Round up Part 1

    December 2, 2017 / 4 Comments

I originally named these posts  “Pattern remakes”, but what happens when you don’t remake anything?  LOL you just say, hey, this is what I did this month!  I’ve been very, very busy in November and I don’t think it’s going to slow down in December.  In November, I did a bunch of unselfish sewing that I didn’t blog about, so let’s talk about that today.  I didn’t make myself a lot, but I was very productive. What happened in November… I became official ya’ll, I joined the American Sewing Guild!  I think that makes me official, right? The American sewing guild (ASG) is ” an organization of sewing enthusiasts who…

Have you ever seen something in the store and though, I really like that, but it doesn’t come in your size?  I mean your dress size or your wallet size?  I know, I have!  I’m not a big fashion follower, I don’t read many fashion magazines and I don’t have a vision board of runway fashion that I love but, when I see something, it inspires me!  I get inspiration from all over, sometimes it’s a fellow blogger, T.V. , pattern, or street styles.  I used to watch the “stories” back in the day and I will tell you, day time soap operas have the best fashion! also, my news…

  • All Twisted Up In Simplicity 8465

    November 24, 2017 / 10 Comments

It slipped my mind that I needed to make something for the holidays to wear, I don’t know how, but it didn’t make it on my white board.  I usually try to map out what I’ll sew so I can keep on track, I’m ADD and if I don’t, I’ll spend two weeks on Pinterest researching how to attach paper to the bottom of trash cans, SMH.  So, I know myself and I know I need structure.  In spite of this however, I leave some time for creative things after I’ve finished what I set up as a goal sort of a wild card if you will.  I give my…

  • It’s time to make a coat Simplicity 1067

    November 13, 2017 / 4 Comments

I’ve been sewing a few years now and although I don’t “need” a coat, I think it’s a good next step for me to take on this type of project and stretch my skills.  I’ve made capes before and jackets, but never a coat.  I’ve never applied tailoring techniques to a garment and I just feel now is as good a time as any to give it a try.  I picked an easy coat pattern with a few piece and a few reviews on pattern review.  I think this is a good road for a beginner to take if they are super cautious like me.  If you need to jump…

  • The make it work top: Butterick 6486

    November 9, 2017 / 13 Comments

Have you ever started something and through out the process you struggled?  That was me with this top.  I should have named it the little top that could, or better yet the whining sewist.  However, in the end I count it a success!  One of my favorite bloggers, Carolyn from Diary of a Sewing Fanatic made this same top and I loved her fabric choice.  She gave great tips and tricks for this pattern and I whined in my insta-stories and blew up her DM throughout the process. I used every one of her recommendations to make this a success and I’m happy I tried this pattern because I learned…

  • Pattern Remakes- October Edition

    November 5, 2017 / 2 Comments

One of my goals has been to go back through my “wearable muslins” and remake them.  What’s a muslin and when should you do one?  Check this blog post out from Tilly and the Buttons.  I spend quite a bit of time making adjustments and it seems like such a waste to only make them once.  In comes the pattern round up, I’m going to consolidate all my remakes from Instagram, Facebook and my camera roll.  I think there’s value in remakes and the styling of what you make so you get more bang for your buck with your pattern and garments.  I think I’ll try this once a month,…
