  • Vogue 9197- The Corrected Muslin

    September 30, 2018 / 11 Comments

Hi!  I just want to share the original corrected muslin of Vogue 9197.  I probably should have shared this before the princess seamed version (eye roll) but it’s OK, better late then never.  Actually, I noticed I only showed pictures of the issues and never the full dress.  In this post, I talked about the issues I had when trying to get this fit on the this version (side dart).  Like the princess seamed version, the bodice is a little short but good for the dress. I believe the fit is very good and the adjustments made are in this post.  The only difference between the other versions of this…

You can tell in the picture the waist seam is too high Soo, I started working on my bodice block and I think I got it perfected, or at least very close.  I’ve made V9197 before and you can read about the original review here.  I was sort of new to fit and made these adjustments to the original.  I think I’m ready to trace my block/slopers (side dart and princess seam) onto oak tag for future use. I converted the bodice to a princess seam and I really like it.  The boss was like “ohh that’s nice and you have a bulls eye on your skirt?”  Well, damn, pattern…

  • What I’ve been up to, Tweaking A Basic Bodice And More Slopers

    September 16, 2018 / 3 Comments

Hi!! Have you missed me?  Well, I’ve been here, I’ve done a few things over the last month, I’ll share a little and then I’ll go into what I’m working on now.  Since my skirt sloper class, I discovered something, I don’t hate true muslins (LOL) and I haven’t made as many “wearable muslins” as I have in the past.  Here’s the issue,  I do not like to take out seams and fix issues (insert triple eye roll) so I have to remind myself that true muslins are really practice so I don’t mind fixing them.  I have to stop being lazy and take out the seams and fix things,…

Neckline is a little too high for me but this blue is soo me. So, I’m still in skirt mode, I need a few more, because who doesn’t need skirts?  I’m in an office environment, but I don’t want to look like an “office worker” so I’m trying to mix things up while keeping professional.  I can use color, texture and fabric to style my wardrobe, as long as it’s not too short, too tight and too over the top (whatever that means).  I like color and print and I try to break things up for work as not to overwhelm the senses.  This is a hard one but what…

I’m not going to talk about the current state of my slip.  Oh, you don’t know what a slip is?  It’s an undergarment, not very popular with the young crowd (insert eye roll) but a nice layer under skirts for unlined garments.  I’ve recently discovered there are/were pants slips (WHAT??) didn’t know this was a thing and I don’t have a pair nor do I have any in my sewing plans.  There are full slips, half slips, knit slips that stretch, silk slips, lace slips, compression slips, and the list goes on. I personally wear slips when the garment I’m wearing isn’t lined, although I don’t wear them with denim skirts. …

Hand made Pencil skirt and Butterick 5526 Hi!  So, I’ve been talking about the skirt block class I’ve taken and I just want to wrap that up.  I gave all the info here so I wont go over that again, but I did want to talk about the process.  In the class, we went through a number of lessons over five weeks.  We learned how to make our own personal croqui by printing out a picture of ourselves and tracing over it.  We used these croquis to design our own skirts.  We could follow along with the instructor or design our own skirts.  The beauty of it is we drew…

Hi!  So, I think I sewed this up sometime last month and I’m now getting pictures.  I really enjoy when my daughter takes my pictures.  I don’t edit photos and I take just a few to get the look of the garment, this means it goes a lot faster if she does it.  It usually takes just a few minutes to get front, back, side and a few silly shots.   I tried with the tripod, it’s just not my thing although I know it’s not that hard.  I guess I’ll work on it (insert eye roll), I need to get a remote, anyone have recommendations for an Iphone compatible…

  • My First Skirt Block Draft

    July 28, 2018 / 10 Comments

Hey!!! So, I’m excited to share a little about my first skirt block! I’m going into week four of a five week course.   No, I told you , I’m not trying to come out with a line of sewing patterns, but I am trying to streamline my fitting process.  If you remember the pencil skirt I made here, I had a few fit issues.  I think that was the point where I knew I needed to get a block.  Many of my favorite bloggers and fit experts use them, actually Andrea from Sew to Fit has a  tutorial showing how she uses her pants block to evaluate a new…

I’m so excited to be featured in July/Aug edition of Sewn Magazine!  If you haven’t seen this sewing magazine, your missing out.  The colors, stories and sewing and truly pieces of art!  Michelle has a fantastic eye for fabric, texture and photography, I’m amazed each and every month..    I’m always excited to see what the makers are making and meeting new and exciting makers.  I’m not the most artistic, but I get a good dose of inspiration from magazines like this one.  I’m excited to see how the same pattern we all use can be interpreted by different people. With the rise of YouTube and vlogs, I get happy to…

  • Recent Purchases: Fabric, Trim, etc..(Destination Shopping)

    July 3, 2018 / 5 Comments

Pacific Trimming and me wearing a caftan in Over the last few months, I’ve combined my vacation and work with a bit of fabric shopping with sewing friends  this started out with sew camp and my trip to FabricMart.  There was sooo much fabric that I purchased that I was too overwhelmed to even right a post (insert eye roll for the rookie lol), I literally took bolts and bolts off the shelf at Fabricmart!  This, in my opinion was a great opportunity to meet like minded people and talk sewing without getting on someone’s nerves (insert eye roll for non-sewing friends and family!). Sign out side It’s a Material…
