Athleisure for the holiday McCalls 7061
Jeans are RTW. Athleisure seems to be a trend of wearing cloths typically designed as athletic wear for everyday wear. I see no issue with this lol, I mean, secret pajamas, leisurewear, athleisure, comfy, whatever you call it, it’s wearing clothes that are comfortable and stylish right? I’m not above comfort, because truthfully, that’s when I’m happiest! I’m happy when I look and feel good, and when my clothes AND shoes are comfortable. Comfortable shoes are another topic of discussion (insert eye roll). Can clothes be a little too leisurely? perhaps, but if you enjoy wearing work out clothes and the environment is appropriate (this is a thing by the…

McCalls 2260 1 Hour Vest- Urban Cowgirl
Styled with RTW tie neck shirt and jeans. Ahh, don’t you love overcast skies?? I wanted an excuse to wear my belt buckle and cowboy boots. The kids that come into the office love to see all the superheros and princesses dressed up for Halloween. I took this basic pattern and some discount fabric from Joann to make this western inspired vest. The vest is super easy, I used a microfiber novelty fabric and made view G without the buttons. The sizing is very generous, I purchased size XL which is 20-22. I initially sized up as per my normal but backed out the adjustment when it was too big. …

Simplicity 8475: Sewing For My Husband
I don’t typically sew for others, why you ask? it’s too much stress and if they don’t wear it, it feels like a waste of time. That’s the negative side of it, but there’s a positive side, there are times when people actually like it and there’s something to be learned. I learned through this process that I wasn’t enjoying the process lol. To have someone else involved was different for me, I like to have creative freedom lol. I felt anxious and rushed, the hubby didn’t know what he wanted and what fabric and all of that so I started working on this later than I’d liked. I wanted…

McCalls 7833 and the skin tight dress
OK, typically, I don’t do tight, I made an exception for this dress because the boss likes it so much (wiggling eyebrows lol). This is a basic knit dress with gathers on one side and for this view, an angled hem. This could have been drafted from the famous McCalls 6886 or any other t-shirt pattern, but for $1.99 why tho? I needed a black dress for the Sew Much Talent Little black dress challenge and I wanted to make a classic dress (think Breakfast at Tiffany’s). I also wanted to participate in the #Sewyourview campaign on instagram so, I changed my mind and just tried something off the wall, …

Pattern Review: McCalls 7838+ the 80’s and a Victorian Sleeve
Hi there! I have a review for you, this Victorian/80’s inspired sleeve. I didn’t jump on the sleeve trend last year, so I thought I’d try something different this month. I wont bore you with commentary, but I will tell you, this shirt was supossed to be black and ecru (insert triple eye roll), OK, you all know I always have a story to tell! So, what had happen was, I threw an entire bag of clothes in the washing machine without sorting it and without a color catcher!!!!!!!!!!!! BAAWWWW… soo, I’ve been sorting close for like 30 years, what in the ham sandwich possessed me to do that. Pure…

Same Fit Done Thick: Vogue 1374 + Badgley Mischka Gown
I wanted to go to the Air Force Ball and I typically rent my gowns because they are reasonably priced and it prevents me from having a closet full of formal wear I wont wear. in the heat of the moment, I decided to make my gown. I originally wanted a woven gown with all the frills, but I also knew with work and home life, I would need a month or so and then I would probably get bored with working on the same thing. I scanned through IG for the last ball gown I wore, and it was a Carmen Marc Valvo design, and yes, that silhouette looks…

Vogue 9197- The Corrected Muslin
Hi! I just want to share the original corrected muslin of Vogue 9197. I probably should have shared this before the princess seamed version (eye roll) but it’s OK, better late then never. Actually, I noticed I only showed pictures of the issues and never the full dress. In this post, I talked about the issues I had when trying to get this fit on the this version (side dart). Like the princess seamed version, the bodice is a little short but good for the dress. I believe the fit is very good and the adjustments made are in this post. The only difference between the other versions of this…

Ankara and Vogue 9197
You can tell in the picture the waist seam is too high Soo, I started working on my bodice block and I think I got it perfected, or at least very close. I’ve made V9197 before and you can read about the original review here. I was sort of new to fit and made these adjustments to the original. I think I’m ready to trace my block/slopers (side dart and princess seam) onto oak tag for future use. I converted the bodice to a princess seam and I really like it. The boss was like “ohh that’s nice and you have a bulls eye on your skirt?” Well, damn, pattern…

What I’ve been up to, Tweaking A Basic Bodice And More Slopers
Hi!! Have you missed me? Well, I’ve been here, I’ve done a few things over the last month, I’ll share a little and then I’ll go into what I’m working on now. Since my skirt sloper class, I discovered something, I don’t hate true muslins (LOL) and I haven’t made as many “wearable muslins” as I have in the past. Here’s the issue, I do not like to take out seams and fix issues (insert triple eye roll) so I have to remind myself that true muslins are really practice so I don’t mind fixing them. I have to stop being lazy and take out the seams and fix things,…

Another Skirt and Vogue 1567 Paco Peralta
Neckline is a little too high for me but this blue is soo me. So, I’m still in skirt mode, I need a few more, because who doesn’t need skirts? I’m in an office environment, but I don’t want to look like an “office worker” so I’m trying to mix things up while keeping professional. I can use color, texture and fabric to style my wardrobe, as long as it’s not too short, too tight and too over the top (whatever that means). I like color and print and I try to break things up for work as not to overwhelm the senses. This is a hard one but what…
