Who doesn’t love a jumpsuit or better yet a faux jumpsuit?  Separates are great because they stretch your wardrobe and allow for lots of different looks.  This color is great and the pictures aren’t doing it any justice.  I pretreated the fabric using Dryel, I have a little bit left and I’m going to wash and dry to see how it does.  I didn’t pay attention that the fabric is dry clean but the color was soo good I couldn’t pass it up. You ve seen this self drafted dolman/kimono top here, I made the top and pants in a suiting and I really love the color and drape, its…

Carolyn takes the best pictures! I love an easy outfit and these two patterns have endless possibilities.  As I look for basic things in RTW I can help but tell myself, I can make that!  I know, I know, sometimes I just want to buy what I want and others I make it.  I wanted wide legged pants but I wasn’t sure how they would look.  I didn’t want to look like I was wearing a sack, but I figured, If I make them, I can make them however I want, right?  I made these pants at Sew Camp and Carolyn took all the photos! I’ve been seeing pants around…

HI!  I told you last week that I had an event to go to and I wanted to make a jacket, wait, was it you I was talking to last week?  No, anyway, it had to be IG LOL.  Soo, I had a semi formal event to attend and I wanted to sew a jacket to go with my Style Sew Me Charita dress.  The catch was, the fabric had to be from my stash, (insert eye roll).  Who set this catch? (looks around), I guess it was me, lol.   I have some stuff in the stash that’s a few years old.  I know for some of you OG’s that’s…

  • Finally, Pants! Simplicity 8056 and Another Simplicity 8014

    February 17, 2019 / 14 Comments

Finally, I finished my pants!  Well, I’m happy with the outcome and it was a long time coming.  I actually could have finished these like two weeks ago, but apparently me and the embroidery machine have been having a little affair (insert shocked face)!  These pants are a wearable muslin, I like wearables because like I’ve said before, I like to wear a garment to work, sit down and stand up to get a good idea of my adjustments.  Also, some fabric tends to bag out and then I over correct to fit it and then it’s tight.  To remedy that, I try and get quality fabric and not over…

I’m tackling pants, I’m also working on my pants block.  Whatttt!  I know (insert eye roll), let me explain, I’m taking a pants block class and before I did that, I wanted to know if adjusting a pair of commercial pattern was comparable.  I know it’s not, but not everyone wants to draft a pair of pants or create a block/sloper!  I’m actually tempted to either have a friend  fit and draft me a pair or wait until the next sewing camp/retreat lol…  Sew camps and sewing retreats are perfect for this.  I think the issue for me is not being able to manipulate the back, this was the issue…

  • Pinterest Interest Using McCalls 7723 and Mccalls 7726

    March 18, 2018 / 14 Comments

As a part of my monthly sewing, I scope out a bunch of challenges on Facebook and Instagram.  For this month, I’ve looked to Pinterest for inspiration for the Sew Much Talent Facebook Group and That Sew Monica’s sew your view challenges.  Between Facebook and Instagram, I’m always challenged and inspired to make something.  I chose this look because it’s much different than anything I’ve sewn and or worn.  I’m pretty boring in my everyday wardrobe, I’m a jeans and T-shirt girl and in the summer cool dresses.  For work, I keep it conservative ish and if you’ve seen my Instagram feed, on the weekends, I’m super casual (urban lumberjack!).…

  • Wide legged pants with a surprise McCalls 7547

    February 4, 2018 / 4 Comments

I love a little surprise, and I have one with these pants.  One of my goals for 2018 is to make pants without elastic at the waist.  Now, there’s nothing wrong with pull on pants, but I want to learn how to fit trousers and jeans too.  Here’s one of the pants fitting resources I used from Closet Case Patterns. I made these at the end of January and I was only sewing from my stash when I made these so I had to improvise.  I don’t have much bottom weight fabric in my stash and no denim, I did have piece of stretch denim so I used this.  I’m…

  • Remake: M6886 (modified) hacked + wide legged pants

    June 26, 2017 / 6 Comments

Hi ya!  I’m super excited about this outfit, I modified my beloved M6886.  You can check out my original review of the pattern here.  This pattern is very popular on pattern review and with sewist around the world.  It’s a basic knit pattern that can be the foundation for tons of knit and woven garments.  Sewist have used this pattern to make T Shirts, dresses, tops, etc, it truly is versatile.  To round out this outfit, I also made wide legged pants using Simplicity 8389, if you remember, I made the shorts to S8389.  The only modification to the original was I made pants instead of shorts.  The construction of…

Alright, I made workout gear for the first time!  It wasn’t as hard as I thought but worth the experience.  Workout clothes are pretty cheap at Walmart and Old Navy, but I can make the colors I want with the right fit.  I used some super awesome compression fabric and funky color blocking, I really like my makes!  The compression fabric is super heavy, like scuba fabric so I couldn’t wear this during the dead of summer, but hey, it’s winter and a little chilly out.  I will make the pants again because they are awesome and the top too, if I can find some lightweight moisture wicking fabric. And…

  • Pattern Review: M7131 + Gauchos

    June 30, 2015 / 2 Comments

I’d like to say I’m fearless, but I’m not.  When it comes to what I wear, I try to find the most flattering things to make and wear, not necessarily what will make me look “smaller”.  I think secretly we all want to look smaller or fitter than we actually are, well I do at least.  I was hesitant about this pattern for that reason.  Gauchos are pretty trendy and I tend to stick to a more classic silhouette that hugs the curves and not add additional bulk to my lower half or any half! The only thing I don’t like about any flowy type pants/shorts is, well, you see……
