  • Cashmerette Upton skirt hack and Butterick 5529 jacket

    September 30, 2017 / 0 Comments

Hi there!  I want to share with you what I’ve made recently.  You’ve seen my Upton dress here and Butterick 5529 jacket here.  Well, I’ve “hacked” the Upton using Jenny’s hack, you can find the instructions on the hack here. I didn’t make any changes, but I should have.  Jenny talks about how to adjust the fit for the skirt and well, I didn’t do that.  Actually I intended to make the Upton dress and didn’t like the fabric I chose after completing it for the bodice so last minute I decided to make the skirt. I really like this fabric, I purchased it from FabricMart and it’s a digital…

  • Pattern Review: B5529 + The Dolman sleeve jacket

    September 21, 2017 / 11 Comments

I’m getting a head start on my Fall sewing.  I’ve seen this type of Dolman sleeve open jacket all over the place.  This is an older Butterick pattern that’s still in print, yay!!.  I’ve seen this pattern in a ton of places in the spring and early fall catalogs, what does that tell you?  patterns come back around too!  I hate having multiple patterns that are similar unless I learn a new construction technique or it has a cool design feature.   So, when I went looking through my patterns for a open easy jacket, I realized I actually  purchased a similar pattern from Simplicity recently in addition to this…

    September 13, 2017 / 7 Comments

I haven’t blogged much in August because I’ve remade some pattern’s that I’ve reviewed before.  I’m super lazy and well, I didn’t want to waist a blog post on remakes, but I think I will try and highlight them in a post sometime during the month.  I think Instagram and Facebook are culprits in my non existent blog posts, they make it easy to snap a picture and post, blogging takes more time, and did I say I’m lazy? I’m getting inspiration from all over the place, and also contemplating what to make for fall.  I know I want a blazer and a cardigan.  I have the patterns, but not…

  • Pattern Review: S8332+ summer dress

    September 5, 2017 / 4 Comments

Wow, the summer has flown by and I’ve only sewn a few things!!  I have been enjoying my summer so it’s not a complete loss.   I don’t ordinarily blog when I remake something, but I think I’ll do a monthly round up for the blog.  I do post my makes on Instagram but I’m too lazy to to right a blog post. I don’t have many plans for the fall, but I will be making a blazer and a cardigan/duster.  I’ll probably follow a sew along or two and play it by ear, so we will see.  I also need to purge some patterns, but I recon I say…

  • Pattern Review: M7604+ tiered skirt

    August 3, 2017 / 0 Comments

This on trend tiered skirt has been all over the place.  I think this skirt would be cute in a color blocked version, long skirt or as a dress.  I’ve seen this tiered look in dresses and they are cute.  This is super easy to make if you attach a bodice for an empire or baby doll look.  While making this skirt, I asked the question, do I like gathers or pleats in skirts?  I think the answer is circle skirts!  I’m not trying to look “smaller” but I don’t want to look bigger either, adding bulk, and this skirt didn’t fall liked I would have liked, I tend to…

  • M7052 + Longer peplum remake

    July 22, 2017 / 4 Comments

I really like the long peplum look on tops and jackets.  I think it adds a nice feature to garments and they are flattering.  I’ve been on this “hacking” rampage trying to get the most use out of my patterns.  I mean, I’ve spent so much time adjusting them to my body, it just seems wrong to only use the pattern once, right? I purchased this bandana print locally, it says Chambray, but it wasn’t as drapey as the rayon Modal or Tencel chambray, but I wanted to give it a try.  This fabric is light weight, but doesn’t have the drape I would like, a little more structure so…

No preamble, I love this duster!! my photographer is at camp and me and the tripod are not yet fully acquainted but yes to the selfie of me in this garment!  Actually I forgot to bring the tripod with me when I packed the car and drove five hours to Savannah, GA.  My good friend had a Denim and Diamonds themed birthday party and I didn’t know what to wear, but I knew I wanted to make something.  I also didn’t want to buy fabric, since I have two bins full of “just in case” fabric.  I feel there’s a little self imposed pressure to make something spectacular if you…

belt is old I’m super late on this review, this was posted to social media almost three weeks ago!  I’m my own boss, so there is not time frame, but I do like to get the reviews out the same day I post to social media.  Even if  the garment is simple, I want you, my wonderful readers to have some info on the pattern and the fit.  You know me, I get into my mode of sewing and I hate to stop what I’m doing to blog.  I know I should, because it’s super helpful for you guys and me!  I make items more than once and I have…

Hi ya!  It’s summertime and we are in full swing, I’m busy with family stuff, work and sewing.   I’ve been consistent lately, but I will tell you, I hate stopping to do “housekeeping”.  I need to stop and do housekeeping because my patterns are a mess, and I’m behind on my reviews.  **sigh** I tend to do a lot and then crash and burn, especially if something I make doesn’t come out right.  I obsess about what I’ve made, the fit, pictures, etc… and I won’t do my admin/ review stuff, it’s stressful!  Also, I’ve moved recently and that threw me off my schedule. I’m working on it, getting…

  • Remake: M6886 (modified) hacked + wide legged pants

    June 26, 2017 / 6 Comments

Hi ya!  I’m super excited about this outfit, I modified my beloved M6886.  You can check out my original review of the pattern here.  This pattern is very popular on pattern review and with sewist around the world.  It’s a basic knit pattern that can be the foundation for tons of knit and woven garments.  Sewist have used this pattern to make T Shirts, dresses, tops, etc, it truly is versatile.  To round out this outfit, I also made wide legged pants using Simplicity 8389, if you remember, I made the shorts to S8389.  The only modification to the original was I made pants instead of shorts.  The construction of…
