Alright!  I usually only post once a week, but I had to let you know about Sew Sew Def Magazine’s PDF top, The Saldana.  Sometimes when I post a picture of something I’ve made, people have lots of questions so I’m writing a quick review on my first impressions of the pattern.   I like magazines, but I usually don’t buy them because they start to collect dust and I rarely go back through them.  I don’t know here lately, I’ve been looking at Vogue magazine and other sewing magazines for tips, inspiration, etc.  When the SEW Sew Def magazine came out, I purchased it, why, because it’s a PDF…

I’m channeling my inner Texan with the mix of boots and denim.  I love this light weight gauze and it the pattern is so feminine.  I was concerned that all the layers on this top would be heavy and hot, but it was nice and cool.  I’m very proud of myself for getting some the new spring patterns sewn up, the problem is the fall patterns are sitting untouched.  I can’t help if I get distracted by the new patterns, I guess I can get back to the jeans I’m making or should I work on one of the summer dresses I picked up?  Hummm, decisions… On to the review:…

I believe the holidays, seasons, etc are good times to make things specific to that time.  I used to bake cookies or make traditional meals during the “holiday” but now, I like to sew something that is representative or captures the spirit of the day.   I don’t have much green in my closet so, this was the perfect time to sew something up.  I didn’t have anything in the que to sew for St. Patrick’s day but while I was at a big box store I saw all the St. Patty’s day stuff out so a light bulb when off.  I wanted to try another view of M7020 so I…

I’d like to keep track of all my ” TNT” patterns on the blog in some way.  TNT stands for tried and true, and in the spirit of classic, well fitting garments, I will try to identify which patterns work with my normal flat pattern adjustments.  If I have to recreate the pattern in every way, the pattern itself wouldn’t be a TNT, in my opinion, but rather a base for your own pattern. I’m not interested in drafting patterns, but I am interested in learning how to identify “good bones” when I look at the technical drawings of a pattern.  I pick up patterns that are popular on pattern…

Alright, I made workout gear for the first time!  It wasn’t as hard as I thought but worth the experience.  Workout clothes are pretty cheap at Walmart and Old Navy, but I can make the colors I want with the right fit.  I used some super awesome compression fabric and funky color blocking, I really like my makes!  The compression fabric is super heavy, like scuba fabric so I couldn’t wear this during the dead of summer, but hey, it’s winter and a little chilly out.  I will make the pants again because they are awesome and the top too, if I can find some lightweight moisture wicking fabric. And…

  • Pattern Review: M7195 + the perfect fit.

    January 4, 2017 / 0 Comments

I have worked out the kinks in this top and I really like the fit.  I guess I like tunics, because I want to make this longer.  I was getting worried, because I couldn’t get the neckline right but I’m happy I stuck with it. I’ve already reviewed M7195 but these are the changes I made to this version: I did a 1 inch cheater FBA, I graded from between XL and XXL to normal size 24 at bust, waist and hem. I did a small round back adjustment to get a better shoulder fit and I eased the fullness into the neckband and that didn’t work, I had to…

I really like this top, but not so much the fit in the armscye.  This is a wearable muslin but I’m having a time reading the muslin’s for how to fix the fit.  I have cut this out again with some adjustments to the back and armscye, fingers crossed it works out. Pattern Description: Loose-fitting, pullover tops have neck and sleeve bands, French darts and hemline variations. A: Short sleeves. A, B: Narrow hem. B: Shaped hemline (wrong side shows). B, C, D: Long sleeves. C, D: Hem bands. Made view B   Pattern Sizing: 16-26, I cut a 22   Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern…

I love super easy patterns that don’t make me cuss!  But me and sleeves are not friends!  I almost slapped this project because my sleeve would not act right.  This is a versatile See and Sew pattern found here, that is great for beginners. The one thing I like about sportswear is that it can be dressed up or down and it can be mixed and matched.  I love when my clothes work double duty.  It’s nice to have items for special occasions, but more often than not I’m looking for a workhorse in my wardrobe, something that can be used in multiple ways and is easy to make, is that too much to ask? When I first started sewing I wanted easy, then I wanted complicated, now I’m back to easy, that looks complicated lol.  This is a wearable muslin, I’m practicing on slippery fabric and I have lots of drag/tug marks on…
