Knit Skirt Block and Hacked Montrose Top

I’m sharing a few new makes well, an outfit.  This is a super short post so I’ll try to keep the eye rolls to a minimum (insert eye roll).  I wanted a navy blue knit pencil skirt so I used some left over interlock from my athleisure top.   There are a few ways to get this done, I chose to follow this tutorial as opposed to a commercial pattern because, it’s really only two pattern pieces.  If you want a closer fit, try this tutorial from Style sew me or Mimi G.    OMG, before you say you don’t draft (triple eye roll), read on.  Seriously, after the adjustments to get the curve in the right place and all of that,  it was easier and faster to draft it.

After drafting my woven skirt block, I figured the knit block would be super easy!  The only variation to the tutorial was to lower the front piece by an inch and peg the leg.  My waist is not straight and even though it’s knit, having the front slightly lower is more comfortable.  Also, I will peg the leg about an inch more when I make it again, I like my original block without too much of a peg I like to keep style lines minimal for future patterns.  Now, with the Montrose top, I made it here, remember?  I used interlock for both the skirt and top.  See, it wasn’t that hard right?

When I adjusted the Montrose top, I made the front pattern piece a full piece with both sides and sort of freehanded the ties.   I traced the front pattern piece on a piece of paper folded in half so that when I cut it out the pattern would be complete.  I could have made a center front seam and made the ties at center front also.  I had a ready to wear top that tied on the side so I used it to draft the ties.  I lengthened both front and back about two inches and fiddled with the ties.  I would make the ties longer and set them farther apart or make them at center front the next time.

I like the variations of blue and also the snake print shoes with my owl (swoon), don’t you??!!  It’s getting cold so although the top is a light weight interlock or is ponte knit ????? (quadruple eye roll) the color feels spring/summer so I may pack this away.
