Cashmerette Ellis Skirt
Mashup of the Springfield top and an OOP dress pattern I purchased the Ellis skirt when it came out and I was super excited to sew this up. I don’t have any denim skirts in my closet, handmade by me or RTW so this was fun. I actually don’t have much denim and I’m not sure why not, I just don’t sew it up much. Actually, you can read about my “just do it” campaign for Sew Brave Sewcialists theme month over on the Sewcialists blog. I went into why I haven’t sewn much denim LOL! I really like this skirt, I like both views for the skirt a lot. …

Utilitarian Vibe: McCalls 7906
This outfit came together better than I imagined! I have a Pinterest board devoted to outfit ideas and style. Sometimes I take the inspiration literally, but most times I use what I have to get the look I’m going for. I knew I wanted a utilitarian vibe with this skirt, I’ve seen this on the runway and utilitarian and all the beiges I like because they are versatile. I’m big on balance, I’m a rectangle/figure eight body type and I can be particular when it comes to silhouette. I know some people out there think “flattering” is a dirty word, but I like to enhance the features in ways that…

What I’ve been up to, Tweaking A Basic Bodice And More Slopers
Hi!! Have you missed me? Well, I’ve been here, I’ve done a few things over the last month, I’ll share a little and then I’ll go into what I’m working on now. Since my skirt sloper class, I discovered something, I don’t hate true muslins (LOL) and I haven’t made as many “wearable muslins” as I have in the past. Here’s the issue, I do not like to take out seams and fix issues (insert triple eye roll) so I have to remind myself that true muslins are really practice so I don’t mind fixing them. I have to stop being lazy and take out the seams and fix things,…

Another Skirt and Vogue 1567 Paco Peralta
Neckline is a little too high for me but this blue is soo me. So, I’m still in skirt mode, I need a few more, because who doesn’t need skirts? I’m in an office environment, but I don’t want to look like an “office worker” so I’m trying to mix things up while keeping professional. I can use color, texture and fabric to style my wardrobe, as long as it’s not too short, too tight and too over the top (whatever that means). I like color and print and I try to break things up for work as not to overwhelm the senses. This is a hard one but what…

DIY A- Line skirt
I totally think the natural progression for a sewist/seamstress/sewer/etc.. is making your own patterns. OK, no, I’m not getting ready to drop a pattern line, but I think there’s some value in understanding fundamentally how patterns work so it’s easier to modify. Now, that’s just my thinking, I have an analytical mind and I think it terms of processes and more importantly building on knowledge. I’m not one of those people that can do something without ever being exposed to it unless it’s similar to what I’ve already done before hence my ridiculous pattern stash which at least half of is basics that I should know how to do by…

Pattern Review: M7604+ tiered skirt
This on trend tiered skirt has been all over the place. I think this skirt would be cute in a color blocked version, long skirt or as a dress. I’ve seen this tiered look in dresses and they are cute. This is super easy to make if you attach a bodice for an empire or baby doll look. While making this skirt, I asked the question, do I like gathers or pleats in skirts? I think the answer is circle skirts! I’m not trying to look “smaller” but I don’t want to look bigger either, adding bulk, and this skirt didn’t fall liked I would have liked, I tend to…

Pattern Review: S1072 + patterned knit skirt
Don’t love when your projects look like you did a lot of work? I do, but I have to admit, it’s all in the print. It’s nice to have a fitted lined skirt, but it’s also nice to operate with an elastic waist! I know right, who would have thought that an elastic waist could look so chic? This is my TNT knit skirt pattern and i’m happy I discovered it. There are so many things you can do with this so have fun. Pattern Description: Misses’ Easy to Sew knit pants, skirt and top. Pattern Review: Butterick 5466 + My first ever garment & Craftsy class
I looked through my closet for something me made to wear today and I stumbled upon this skirt. Oh, the nostalgia of my first ever skirt! I took a Craftsy class and really, really enjoyed being walked through each step of the process. I’ve made another in a different view and I will show pictures when I can get them taken. I’d have to say that this skirt is my “TNT” skirt pattern because it’s my first and it’s so very basic. I’ve made the high waisted pencil skirt and this skirt. I followed all the directions for finishing seams/edges and I took my time with the zipper. My reward…

Pattern Review: Lindy Petal Skirt from Itch to Stitch **Free Pattern**
When I get frustrated with a pattern, I try and step away and work on something else to boost my confidence. I’m working on a dress that has princess seams and I need to do a FBA. I did a muslin, tissue fit and all, and it’s still wonky. While in one of my Facebook sewing groups, someone posted a link to this free pattern. I’d never worked with a PDF pattern, but it said easy and FREE so I saved it. This is my “wearable” muslin and review. Pattern Description: Lindy Petal Skirt is a simple knit pencil skirt with an elastic waistband. It features two overlapping curved front…
