Pattern Review: M2149 + Men’s wear

I’m a selfish sewer, I have challenges with ready to wear clothing so I enjoy making clothes that fit my body.  I like spending time making my own clothes, however, for May the challenge, we tackled men’s wear.  Hubby builds anything I want so It’s only right to make the man a shirt or two.  One of the recommendations for men’s wear was to get the man involved in the process to ensure they like what’s being made.  I never would have picked the fabric or buttons he chose, so it was great advice to get them involved.  My husband picked out his fabric and buttons, he was also good about his fittings.

With each thing I sew, I get better, different techniques, different experiences and I enjoy it.  This challenge got me out of my comfort zone and was a well needed rest from constant fittings and pattern adjustments.    My husband was really good at telling me what he wanted and what didn’t work.  I wasn’t a fan of this fabric, but I gave it as one of the opitons.  The guaze stretched and it was crazy to cut, and changed shape after ironing.  He liked the color and texture, in the future I will stick to shirting/ or challis.

Pattern Description:

 
Shirt has front patch pocket, side seam slits and button-down closure. A, B, C: Notched collar. A, D, F: Long sleeves with buttoned cuffs. B, C, E, G: Short sleeves. D, E: Stand-up collar. F, G: Collarless. C: Contrast collar and patch pocket.

SEWING LEVEL: Advanced beginner.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

Were the instructions easy to follow?

 
Yes, the instructions are clear.  I had help, the Sewmuch Talent Facebook group had a monthly challenge and we received lots of additional information how to sew for men.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?

 
The hubby liked the casual look of this camp shirt and it is similar to a RTW linen suit he already owned. 

Fabric Used:Poly/ rayon  gauze

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:

 
I sewed this right out of the package.  I took chest, bicep, waist and shoulder slope measurements.  The ease was similar to his ready to wear shirt so it didn’t require any alterations.  My husband didn’t want the pocket so I omitted it.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, both my husband and son like the shape and look of the top.  Since I’ve made it already, I feel confident remaking it.

Sewing Tip:  I used Wonder tape on the collar before stitching to hold it in place.
