Pattern Review: M7100 + the Bomber Jacket
I had the bright idea to make my
mother a gift for her birthday. I wanted
to make a bomber jacket, and she wanted one, so I figured, I’ll do some more
unselfish sewing. This is a wearable muslin
as this is my first time making it and there’s tons of errors that I learned
from. My jacket will go much smoother! Here’s a link to the McCall’s sew along here.
Pattern Description:
Semi-fitted, unlined jackets have collar, side-front seams, bands,
side-front pockets, exposed front zipper contrast panels and sleeves with
shoulder dart. A, B, C: Welt pockets. D:
Kangaroo pocket. I made view A.
Pattern Sizing:
L-XXL I cut size L.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were
done sewing with it?
Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Lots of errors in this pattern, albeit addressed by McCall’s Pattern company
blogs and other reviews. Overall, I like
the look of the pattern and there are so many reviews out there and a sew
along, makes this a viable pattern.
Fabric Used:
Scuba knit for the main fabric and crepe for the lining.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I made the recommended updates to
the sleeve as per the sew along on the McCalls blog. I made this for my mom so I cut the L and made
adjustment for the waist, grading out to the XL. I added a lining using the sew a long
instructions. I also used ½ in bias
binding to finish off the sleeve cuffs.
Would you sew it again?
Yes, I plan to make one for myself know that I’ve worked out all the bugs, I
already have my fabric picked out.
Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, but with modifications.
Recommend the sew along on McCall’s blog, reading all the instructions
before starting and look at the pictures as well as the written instructions to
ensure success.
