Pattern Review: V9084+ Hot Pink Peplum

I love a pop of color and Hot pink is so girly to me.  I originally purchased this pattern before doing my research (checking sewing Pattern Review).  No one reviewed it and I couldn’t find anything on it, I almost freaked out!  What was I thinking, a beginner taking on a pattern with no cup sizing and a zipper??  I used the left over fabric from my awesome blazer to work this pattern.  I chose something with some lycra in the event that it would be too tight eekk!!! lol   This is a wearable muslin also because the fabric was flawed and i’m trying to use it up.

Pattern Description:

Top (fitted through bust) has flounce variations, back zipper and narrow hem.  I made view A.

Pattern Sizing:

16-24 I cut size 22

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow?

Yes, the instructions are easy/basic for a top.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?

I like the peplum and all the sleeve, peplum and length variations for the pattern, no dislikes.

Fabric Used:

I used a Cotton Woven stretch sateen from FabricMart

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:

*I did a 1 inch FBA on the bodice and added a Side dart.
*I think next time I will  do a 3/4 inch FBA and keep the side dart but make the waist dart into two smaller darts or just the side dart.
*Shortened the length slightly  by about 3/8 inch at the shoulder seam.
*Decreased the side seams at the waist by about 1/2 inch to reduce some of the bust fullness.
* I could have taken in a little more off  the waist dart, but I was fiddling too much with it so I left it, depending on the way I stand it’s more pronounced.

**Note: this was my wearable muslin, I forgot to stabilize the zipper so if you use something with stretch stabilize the seam.   I’d planned on a cotton, but since the fabric had lycra, it gaps a bit so I wasn’t thinking about the stabilizer until it was too late.

** Note: I didn’t realize that fabric with lycra doesn’t like to be pressed so the the waist darts did not behave.  A woven with no stretch would have taken a crisp pressing, no amount of steam, clapper and pressing cloth would get those darts right.  Since it is a muslin, I didn’t stress about it too much.  On some of the photo’s you can see the dart acting out.

Would you sew it again?

Yes, I’d like to try this in a Ponte/ Stable knit or a woven with no stretch.

Would you recommend it to others?

Yes, give it a try.  There are tons of peplum patterns out there, but I like the variations on this peplum.   The front variations and high low hems make this pattern different.  I think it’s a pattern that I would like to see more reviews on so I can get some ideas :).

Cost:

Pattern: $5
Fabric: $4.50 per yard I used  about 2 yards: Total: $9.00
Notions: Zipper $1.50
Total: $15.50

Time:

About 6 hours, this includes the first go round and the FBA

 Conclusion:

I think this is the first review on this pattern and I feel it has some potential.  I really like the variations on this pattern in comparison to some of the other peplum tops out there.  This is a good pattern to practice doing FBA’s with only a waist dart, that was new for me.  Also, it was good practice to hem the peplum which caused for easing the hem, which was also new for me.
