Pattern Review: M6886 + The everything knit dress x 2

I know some of these patterns have been around forever, but I just sew enjoy discovering the patterns that EVERYONE loves.  There are some patterns that just do no wrong and this is one of them.  An easy knit with variations and easy construction.  I know it’s a bit lazy, but I also enjoy these patterns because all the “bugs” have been worked out of them.  You see so many variations, so many sizes, and shapes wearing them, they are like wrap dresses, they look good on everyone.

I try to add something fresh and new to each pattern, but with this one, I made it as is and didn’t mess with it too much.  There’s lots of potential with this pattern  because it’s well made and it didn’t need a lot of adjustments.

Pattern Description:  

Close-fitting, pullover dresses have neckline variations, and stitched hems.  I cut view D.


Pattern Sizing:  

6-22 I cut a 22

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?  


Yes although I changed things up a bit by adding sleeves.

Were the instructions easy to follow?  


Yes, it only has two pages!  Very simple construction.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?  


I like the easy construction, it only had three pattern pieces.  Nothing to dislike!

Fabric Used:


Black aztec print is from FabricMart & Green zebra print is from Hobby Lobby.

 Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:  

* I lengthened the pattern front piece by 2 inches and the back piece by 2 inches.
* I added sleeves to view D.
* I graded up the entire dress to 24 but the hip was too curvy and I had to shave off about 1/2 inch on each hip down through the hem (it has plenty of ease in the waist for a knit).

Would you sew it again? 


Ughh, yes, I already made two!  I can’t wait to make this in a wool knit or a ponte for winter in the longer view E or F.

Would you recommend it to others?


Yes, this is a must have in your stash.  It’s a great beginner pattern and super easy to construct.  The first time I sewed it,  I basted to see what needed to be changed and then serged all the seams.  This can be constructed on the serger and then you will need to top stitch the hem, neckline and sleeve (if applicable).  FYI, it has a bit of an A-line shape, you can peg the bottom to make it more of a tube shape.

              Green: $3.00 per yard I used about 1.75 yards. Total: $5.25

About 3 hours to sew both and trace the pattern pieces.

 Conclusion:


Another great pattern that’s good for beginners, it has just two main pieces and is a great pattern to gain experience working with knits.  It’s also a fast sew so you get instant gratification with this!
