Pattern Review: B6205 + Metallic stripes
Hi! Well, I’m back with another dress! I picked up this striped cotton and metallic fabric from Joann’s with no clue what I would make with it. I thought a dress, but it’s a thin shirting material and I wasn’t sure if it had enough body for a dress. One of my Facebook groups had a stripes challenge and I thought, what a great way to use and highlight this fabric. I’ve also seen these tie shoulders on a ready to wear dress online and thought it was interesting. I have forward shoulders, so an opportunity to not make a shoulder adjustment is a plus! The dress also reminds me…

Pattern Review: Cashmerette Upton dress
Can I just say, I love this dress! I just finished the Cashmerette Upton Dress! I think like everyone else who has made this dress, I was skeptical of sizing, I guess we can blame that on the fit issues most have with commercial patterns. I don’t have many Indie patterns because commercial patterns are available and cheap. You can’t beat $1.99, I’m not bashing commercial patterns, I have over 400, I know, I know, most I haven’t made, and many of them I purchased for a dollar. There are some really good ones in my stash so I can’t say they are worthless. As I grow as a sewer/…

Remake: M7313 + spring dress for brunch
I was invited to a Jazz brunch by my cousin and I knew I wanted to make something to wear. Well, life got in the way, and I didn’t finish the dress I wanted to make. I was a little upset, because I really, really like wearing what I make so my husband asked if I could make something this morning. I wasn’t sure, but I saw Judith Dee on Instagram and she just made M7313. I said, wait, I have that pattern and I love that pattern and that pattern is super easy! I pulled it out and used this super cute Liverpool knit from LA finch Fabrics. Liverpool…

Pattern Review: V1473+ The barganista Challenge
Ok, let me tell you ’bout this dress! First, why this dress? Well, Pattern Review has contests every month and I try and catch a few of them throughout the year to help stretch myself in regards to the things I sew. Recently, I sewed some active wear, thanks to the active wear contest, you can see that review here. But about this dress, I made this dress as a part of the Barganista contest, where you are recreating a designer look on the cheap. I looked around and I just didn’t know what I wanted to make so I changed my focus a bit, I changed what I was…

PDF Pattern Test: Sahara ladies top and dress
This is my first time testing a PDF pattern and it was fun! I found out about the opportunity to test a top/dress PDF pattern from Bella Sunshine Designs from the Curvy Sewing Collective’s Facebook group. I applied to be a tester and I was selected, I knew nothing about the designer, the pattern or what the process entailed, but after telling my husband about it he said, why not? I’m sooo happy I stepped out of my comfort zone! I have a new found respect for patterns and the time, blood, sweat and tears that are put into drafting and testing them. The pattern I tested didn’t have a…

Pattern Review: V9197 + Floral dress
I feel like a sewing maniac! I’ve tried to complete one garment a week and get me a few things for spring sewn up, I have spring fever! Florals are always appropriate for this time of year so when browsing the web for fabric, I tend to look for florals and nice bold colors and prints. I’m also going to a brunch in early April and I wanted something really pretty to wear that I made. I’ve trying a few patterns and I’m not in love with any of the one’s I’ve tried. I will need to pick something soon because I don’t want to wait until the last minute.…

Pattern Review: M7573+ Romantic casual off the shoulder flutter top
I’m channeling my inner Texan with the mix of boots and denim. I love this light weight gauze and it the pattern is so feminine. I was concerned that all the layers on this top would be heavy and hot, but it was nice and cool. I’m very proud of myself for getting some the new spring patterns sewn up, the problem is the fall patterns are sitting untouched. I can’t help if I get distracted by the new patterns, I guess I can get back to the jeans I’m making or should I work on one of the summer dresses I picked up? Hummm, decisions… On to the review:…

Pattern Review: M7566 + the cape dress
I got the bright idea to try a pattern before the gurus at Pattern Review get a hold to it. What was I thinking? It has been cold her in the Carolina’s, well everywhere actually, it was winter then spring, now it’s winter again! I want to wear a sundress!!! OK, tantrum over, but really, why is it so cold? I’m trying to stay consistent with my sewing and actually make stuff that I will wear. So I’m wearing this dress around the house with my white sandals, because its 50 degrees outside. I think this dress will get lots of wear, I’m not in love with the dress, but…

Top of the Morning! M720+ Emerald green top
I believe the holidays, seasons, etc are good times to make things specific to that time. I used to bake cookies or make traditional meals during the “holiday” but now, I like to sew something that is representative or captures the spirit of the day. I don’t have much green in my closet so, this was the perfect time to sew something up. I didn’t have anything in the que to sew for St. Patrick’s day but while I was at a big box store I saw all the St. Patty’s day stuff out so a light bulb when off. I wanted to try another view of M7020 so I…

Remake of B5211+ the dress
I have so many things I want to make and the newness and potential of each pattern calls to me. The rational side of me says, make as many of this one pattern as you can so you can move on to something else. The impulsive side says, cut them all, make them all now!! lol I try not to listen to the irrational side, I always rush through the garments and I end up hating my makes. This time, I erred on the rational side this month and made multiple views of this pattern before putting it away. I know there are some sewist who make a pattern once…
