Pattern Review: M7100 + the Bomber Jacket
I had the bright idea to make my mother a gift for her birthday. I wanted to make a bomber jacket, and she wanted one, so I figured, I’ll do some more unselfish sewing. This is a wearable muslin as this is my first time making it and there’s tons of errors that I learned from. My jacket will go much smoother! Here’s a link to the McCall’s sew along here. Pattern Description: Semi-fitted, unlined jackets have collar, side-front seams, bands, side-front pockets, exposed front zipper contrast panels and sleeves with shoulder dart. A, B, C: Welt pockets. D: Kangaroo pocket. I made view A. Pattern Sizing: L-XXL …

Pattern Review: S1563 + Robe and Pajama pants
My daughter doesn’t ask me to make her stuff much, and she didn’t ask for this, but when I saw this fabric, during the holiday, I knew she would love it. I don’t do much selfless sewing. Partly because it takes a long time to make something, and partly because I don’t want too: p. It takes me forever to make something and if it takes that long, I want to wear it. I’m very sensitive about my stuff, if the person wearing my handmade item doesn’t like it and doesn’t pay for it, that irritates me. Soo, to avoid all of that, I just sew for myself. I know,…

Pattern Review: S8219+ Faux Fur Vest
Faux fur is all the rage, I think. I see it everywhere, but I didn’t jump right on the bandwagon. The faux fur garments I’ve seen in the stores are nice, but to furry, if that makes sense. The pile (fur) is usually too long and furry like a dog. I guess I like the idea of faux fur but not all of the fur. I found this faux fur, mixed media type fabric at Joann’s; its fur was pretty short and it had some nice dimension to it, I really like it. So, here’s to the not so furry, faux fur vest… Pattern Description: This lined vest sized…

Pattern Review: M7195 + the perfect fit.
I have worked out the kinks in this top and I really like the fit. I guess I like tunics, because I want to make this longer. I was getting worried, because I couldn’t get the neckline right but I’m happy I stuck with it. I’ve already reviewed M7195 but these are the changes I made to this version: I did a 1 inch cheater FBA, I graded from between XL and XXL to normal size 24 at bust, waist and hem. I did a small round back adjustment to get a better shoulder fit and I eased the fullness into the neckband and that didn’t work, I had to…

Pattern Review: M7505 + 2nd times a charm
This is the final product after I worked out all the bugs of the wearable muslin. I really like the fit of this dress. I adjusted the waist as it was a little too loose on my body type and I didn’t account for the increase to the sleeve in the flounce so it’s a little tight, but I still love it. The hem is not straight, sort of wavy and the polyester didn’t press as good as I liked, but overall I’m very happy with this sew. Pattern Description: Semi-fitted through the bust dresses have back zipper, French darts and long trumpet sleeves. B: Lace overlay. I made…

Pattern Review: M7020 + the knit oversized tunic
I pretty late on sewing this pattern. I think there should be a list out there of the top 10 things to sew or some sort of checklist so I don’t miss these tried and true patterns. I find myself going back to the “best of” by year on the Sewing Pattern Review site. As a newer sewer, it’s helpful to look at those patterns, because most of the “bugs” have been worked out and there are usually tutorials, sew a longs or reviews to help. I’m learning what alterations I need to make and how to work those into tissue fittings, but that’s still hit or miss with me.…

Pattern Review: M7505+ the dress
This is my wearable muslin and a case of over fitting. This dress is wonderful and simple, I started messing with getting the fit closer and closer, until it was too close and the sleeve wouldn’t fit right. I serged before putting the sleeve so there wasn’t much seam allowance for me to mess with but that’s what I get for not leaving well enough alone. I have already made adjustments and cut this out to be sewn again. Lesson learned, measure before sewing, spread measurement over all seams equally and baste. Pattern Description: Semi-fitted through the bust dresses have back zipper, French darts and long trumpet sleeves. B: Lace…

Pattern Review: M7195 + pullover top
I really like this top, but not so much the fit in the armscye. This is a wearable muslin but I’m having a time reading the muslin’s for how to fix the fit. I have cut this out again with some adjustments to the back and armscye, fingers crossed it works out. Pattern Description: Loose-fitting, pullover tops have neck and sleeve bands, French darts and hemline variations. A: Short sleeves. A, B: Narrow hem. B: Shaped hemline (wrong side shows).
