Wide legged pants with a surprise McCalls 7547
I love a little surprise, and I have one with these pants. One of my goals for 2018 is to make pants without elastic at the waist. Now, there’s nothing wrong with pull on pants, but I want to learn how to fit trousers and jeans too. Here’s one of the pants fitting resources I used from Closet Case Patterns. I made these at the end of January and I was only sewing from my stash when I made these so I had to improvise. I don’t have much bottom weight fabric in my stash and no denim, I did have piece of stretch denim so I used this. I’m…

Work out gear McCalls 7482
The start of the New Year and getting healthy is on a lot of people’s mind. It’s on my mind and although I’ve made active wear before, you can see the post here, I wanted to try it again. I’m pretty comfortable when exercising cotton t-shirt and compression leggings. I really like to get outside, the fresh air is always nice. When it gets cold, I like a jacket to throw on over my work out clothes, something that I don’t mind sweating in. About the fabric, I’ve used the black compression knit before here and the scuba knit is a remnant from this dress. I’m sewing from my stash…

Cashmerette Appleton Review and Help With My Coffee Dress
I’m very surprised I haven’t made this dress yet! In my defense, I have so many patterns and I love them all, I do forget what I have until I get inspired and start sifting through the pattern bin. This is a possible contender for my day/coffee dress for the Day and night Dress Challenge hosted by Elizabeth Made this. I love wrap dresses, well dresses period and I really enjoy making them. I’ve learned a lot about fitting and fabric so I hope my dresses will get more wear an not end up in the donate pile. I purchased a few yards of ITY before Hancock’s closed, because ITY…

DIY Helmut Lang Inspired sweatshirt McCalls 7688
Hi there! This is the last garment of the year for me so I thought, why not make it twice? This pattern was picked as a part of an Instagram monthly challenge #Sewyourview with @thatsewmonica and @feesewcrafty. I don’t know how I’m gonna follow them next year if I go on a pattern fast, I think I need to slow down on the patterns! I have way too many, I think I’m at the point where I need to start modifying some of these patterns, but then when they’re a dollar why modify? I still have to store the modified version unless I modify it on the fabric? I don’t…

DIY Toaster Sweater Simplicity 8529
I really like this sweater, it’s modern and very trendy. It’s also plus when you get an awesome Indie Pattern from a Big 4 pattern company at the sale price. This pattern is a little different from Sew House Seven toaster sweater #2, Simplicity’s pattern has a dropped shoulder. I wasn’t sure if I liked the dropped shoulder but I think for the oversized fit of this top, it works, I think raglan sleeves work better for me. The Simplicity pattern didn’t offer the raglan sleeve option, but I’m OK with the overall style. In any event, you get the same over all effect and everyone is sewing this up…

Sew the Look: DIY Burberry Inspired Cape McCalls 7664
I had a gap in my wardrobe, I needed a casual coat/cape that was good for cool weather and would work for times when I need to run from the car to the house/building. I don’t have a lot of casual coats, but I have tons of jackets, so I knew I wanted something a little heavier than my jackets but not as heavy as my Wool coat. I really like camo, so when I saw the fabric in the 50% of section of Joann’s I got a few yards with the intent of making a similar cape to this Burberry inspired cape. I thought this was a good sew…

DIY Great Gatsby Dress and Cape
What’s with the getup? I went to a Great Gatsby themed birthday party and let me tell you it was fabulous. The decorations, outfits, music and food were awesome. The theme of the party was Great Gatsby, but we didn’t drink bathtub brew and we didn’t swing, but we did dance a lot! This was a Juke Joint so it was dark, I tried my best with the pictures. When deciding what to wear, I knew I wanted to make my outfit and I didn’t want a costume. I knew it had to be quick, easy and something I could wear again. On my search for the inspiration, I did…

All Twisted Up In Simplicity 8465
It slipped my mind that I needed to make something for the holidays to wear, I don’t know how, but it didn’t make it on my white board. I usually try to map out what I’ll sew so I can keep on track, I’m ADD and if I don’t, I’ll spend two weeks on Pinterest researching how to attach paper to the bottom of trash cans, SMH. So, I know myself and I know I need structure. In spite of this however, I leave some time for creative things after I’ve finished what I set up as a goal sort of a wild card if you will. I give my…

It’s time to make a coat Simplicity 1067
I’ve been sewing a few years now and although I don’t “need” a coat, I think it’s a good next step for me to take on this type of project and stretch my skills. I’ve made capes before and jackets, but never a coat. I’ve never applied tailoring techniques to a garment and I just feel now is as good a time as any to give it a try. I picked an easy coat pattern with a few piece and a few reviews on pattern review. I think this is a good road for a beginner to take if they are super cautious like me. If you need to jump…

The make it work top: Butterick 6486
Have you ever started something and through out the process you struggled? That was me with this top. I should have named it the little top that could, or better yet the whining sewist. However, in the end I count it a success! One of my favorite bloggers, Carolyn from Diary of a Sewing Fanatic made this same top and I loved her fabric choice. She gave great tips and tricks for this pattern and I whined in my insta-stories and blew up her DM throughout the process. I used every one of her recommendations to make this a success and I’m happy I tried this pattern because I learned…
